He's an elite player who is exciting to watch, but I obviously don't like to watch him because he plays for the Oilers. If he didn't I can ensure that myself and many others here would tune into his teams games just to watch him (maybe a few exceptions depending on the team lol).
I will now stress that I am in no way a McDavid fan. Pissy? Yeah I straight up just don't like him, but McDavid is just so milquetoast that I don't really think of him at all. I just want him to jump from the sinking ship that is the Edmonton Oilers.
Anyways, if you want to hate watch McDavid when he's playing for Canada that's your prerogative and I totally understand. Personally the players I'm most excited to be able to support when an international event comes around are Mackinnon and Makar. Ideally someone other than McDavid lights up the tournament and leads us to victory but if McDavid is the one who scores a winning goal or leads in scoring then whatever, I can stomach that if it means gold.

If the media didn't shove mcdavid down every ones throats 24/7 and he displayed any redeeming characteristics whatsoever maybe cheering for him wouldn't be a repulsive proposition.
He just isn't likable and the theatrical embellishment is a bad look for someone is looked at to be an example for fans.
Compare and contrast him and Sidney Crosby and maybe it will start to make sense.
They aren't cut from the same cloth.
