Bar fights happen. Words cause fights all the time, that's how fights start - someone throws the first punch. Hopefully he gets off light, no reason for this to destroy a young man's career. If they guy moved himself within striking range of Mckenna IMO that is a threat of violence and throwing a punch rather than being punched is a better option.
Obviously walking away would be the best move here, but as a young man that can be difficult especially if someone is verbally provoking you. Now, I don't know the circumstances, so if Mckenna just attacked him and sucker punched him, then yeah, that's assault.
