Panarin and Sherwood are not competing for the same role on the roster. Looks like they're both left wing but one can probably switch sides or Sherwood bumps down one line. That is a simple problem to solve.
I can't seriousily imaging saying no to a 1st line winger because you just acquired a middle 6 winger.

This is why the Sherwood trade made no sense for them IMO
They needed a top 4 dman or top 6 forward, instead they went and traded two 2nds for a bottom 6 forward who is 30 years old (soon to be 31) and requires a contract extension that's for sure going to be an overpay based on him riding a shooting percentage bender.
And now because they spent those assets there, they have fewer assets for other deals that were more critical for them long term.
