I had my E550c (M278 engine) tuned to 550HP/705FT-LBS (Stage 2, stage 1 was ~503HP) and it was glorious. Reliability was unchanged, which is to say it was trouble-free; I did the regular maintenance and it was just fine.
If you're gonna do a tune on the E400, do a Stage 2 and try to get downpipes done at the same time. It'll dramatically improve the responsiveness and the end result.
