I just will never understand why someone must have a public meltdown because a player chose to do what he thought was right for himself rather than the team. Teams will cut player, buy players out, and not offer players extensions all the time. It is a two-way street. That's the business side.

Rasmus could have just said: "Vegas or nothing" from the very start. Good luck getting Vegas to offer anything other than scraps. Sounds like Vegas offered the best 'rental deal'. Rasmus could have also used his NTC to eliminate teams he thought might bid on him for a playoff run too - he was an upcoming UFA, so teams outside of the playoffs wouldn't have any interest in a rental.

Rasmus didn't exactly bend over backwards for the Flames, but he also didn't screw the Flames either. Was a good soldier for a cheap deal for a long time here, and when he left, he showed the Flames, the city and the fans a little bit of respect instead of stomping his feet, complaining, and demanding a trade to Vegas and Vegas only.
Conroy tried to trade him last summer. They got better value now. Best offer was Bowen Byrum straight up.
