Systems in hockey are overrated - you keep the puck to the outside in the D zone and guard the points, and you funnel pucks to the net and attack the middle in the offensive one. You don’t allow easy access at the blue line.
That’s it.
The Calgary Flames, by NHL standards, are limited with the offensive talent they have. When some teams have the option to pass it to McDavid or MacKinnon or Kucherov, it lets them play a certain way.
The Flames can give it to Naz. Or Backs. Or Weegar.
No system in the history of the game could elevate that.
What they do have are good goalies. So the only way they can win is playing super conservative and hope for bounces/make it to the shootout. They don’t have the personnel to be competitive 3v3 at all.
