Yeah, it's one way to pick up easy assets especially for rebuilding teams with cap space. The fact that the Flames as a rebuilding team can't trade him for anything or use that cap space to get an asset isn't a positive.
Getting to the cap floor is the easiest thing for any team to do. The talk that having Huberdeau at his cap hit is beneficial is malarky. If a GM can't find a way to do the easiest thing in the world like get to the cap floor, they should be fired on the spot. It's as easy as drawing up a contract if you absolutely had to.
