I've noticed that on the breakout starting from our own zone, the D usually throws a pass to a Flames player in our own slot or high-slot area. Seems like a high risk play that I haven't seen with past coaches or on other teams.
The risk is that if that into-the-high-slot pass is picked off, or the Flames player is unable to get control of the puck, you've essentially handed the puck to the opponent in a dangerous scoring area while most of the Flames skaters are headed in the other direction on the breakout.
Has anyone else noticed this?
