The return isn't what I hoped for, but Whitecloud and a 2nd is significantly better than Miromanov coming back in the Hanifin trade. No idea if Wiebe is anything, but if he's playing with Reschny currently he's at least more than a complete throw-in.
The biggest takeaway is that this is the way the trade market works for a smaller Canadian team. A pending UFA is available, and even with as much safe-guarding as possible by Conroy, that player still controls a massive amount of the trade because he can flat out say I'm going to free agency. Less confident teams will offer less as a result, or back out entirely.
The Detroit and Boston rumoured packages excited me more, but that's also because I'm more familiar with those prospects compared to the unknowns of late 1st / 2nd round draft picks. But Potter and Gridin both looks great to me now...
