yes it is still under the 1 yr factory warranty.. and yes it did happen under warranty.. i even bought the applecare protection plan..
i brought it in to westworld on centre street.. they told me that it was "physical damage" even though there are signs that the cord looks melted... i called apple to complain about the plug getting really hot and they told me that it was normal.. then sure enough 2 days later i found that the cord had melted through..
when i went on apple.ca to see how much a new adapter would cost, i saw that there were many negative comments about the adapter overheating, smoking, melting, etc.... to me this sounds like a defect.. potentially a fire hazard, and i don't know why there hasn't been a recall yet..
