I really don’t think anyone figured Tucker, not himself, would get $60MM a year even this time last week.

Again I think the Jays got a bit smug with the money and term they could offer that Tucker, I think he was genuinely interested in it, and Jays could’ve locked him down earlier than this (ie a week or 10 days ago) and he would have made only $30 or $35MM a year for 6 or 7 years.

Blame the slow moving Jays for a top guy, again IMO. Yes I know they got the other business done with good players. In my opinion those signings are directly related to the good vibes the organization got from being observed in the WS in addition to the slight overpays that Rogers have to make…all good, those players don’t come to Toronto in previous years even for the same money.

Yes also blame the Mets for coming late to the party and raising the stakes with Tucker a few days ago, which allowed the Dodgers to sweep in and scoop him. But if the Jays were more aggressive before the Mets started to panic this would’ve been done already.

So, the real big fish got away, again, from the Jays.

Outside of winning a WS upcoming and having that goodwill to go along with Rogers cash, it pretty much shows that the true top guys aren’t going to choose Toronto.

Really, it’s time for last years shiny toy in Santander to step up.
