As one who's never had a issue with a PC for 10 years, as far as freezing, virus issues and the like, I find that reasoning somewhat lame for me, and not a sole reason for cutting down the PC platform.
That said, I may have some extra $ to throw around for a laptop for fooling around on and having a Mac may be a nice change to the exsisting home PC....however its quite the premium to pay to get a Macbook that has something as simple as a DVD burner...$1340 unless I can get a student discount with my old number. Even then...
Still, for a 2nd computer I can get a decent spec PC laptop for almost half the $.
