In past years with cap accrual I get waiting until the last minute, but this year if you're a team looking to make a splash why are you waiting.
Teams have ~15-17 games until the deadline, why not try to make the move now, get the guy into your organization, and let him get settled in your city during the Olympic break.

I honestly think it’s one of the reasons Vegas has been as strong as they have been. They’re the most aggressive, no-nonsense teams in the league.
Winning is everything, and they know top players drive success. So they’re in on the best player available, always. Yeah, the market makes them attractive to UFAs, but in trades? If a top tier player becomes available - Vegas is in on it and they generally outbid the others. They don’t follow the traditional passive/risk-averse approach that almost everyone else does. I think it’s great, and I wish more teams in the league would stop being so damn scared of transactions.
