Yes, the Olympics is the obvious miss here (and the new arena would of course already have been built by now), but Calgary - NOT Edmomton/Red Deer - should have gotten the World Juniors. The entire tournament could have been hosted in one place, instead of having to travel so far between games. They should really look at hosting something - maybe a World Championships? - and take advantage of having two overlapping arenas.
Yes, I know that the Saddledome is to be demolished as part of the deal, but my argument is that for 'x' amount of time, Calgary could have taken advantage and hosted something that could have used a two-arena event. Just seems like a missed opportunity to me. Great way to say "goodbye" to the Saddledome, while saying "hello" to the new arena. AFAIK, Calgary won't take advantage of the situation. The new building will go up and the Dome will go down....
