My opinion is that the flames can afford to give him the opportunity and hope that he regains confidence from that opportunity. You’re correct that his aggressiveness has not been the same since the injury and there’s a good chance that this does not work for the flames. But… what do they have to lose in this scenario? At worst, he proves that he can’t make it as a centre in the NHL and the flames. At best, he regains his form from early last season and gets back on track. The only other center in the organization that could be given the same opportunity is Kerins - and I’d be fine with that too. J think the flames should take this season to give guys like Zary/Kerins a shot at a top 3 centre role to know wha they have. Would hate to trade Zary after never giving him much a shot at that spot only to find him regain his form with another organization that did give him that good opportunity at centre.
