I missed the game tonight and after reading the synopsis, I doubt I'll get around to watching it. Was Huberdeau worse than usual or something?

I'm also not buying that his decline is systems or coaching related. A few notable players had their best years under Sutter, and he didn't have any problem with guys like Gaudreau or Tkachuk bringing their own creativity to the ice. In his first go around, he acquired Huselius and Tanguay who were creative guys. With Huska, I think it is a self-fulfilling thing. The team plays the way it does because most of the guys, including Huberdeau, just are not bringing effective creativity to the offense, so he leans on structure and defensive play. If Huberdeau was nailing his attempts to create scoring chances, I don't think Huska is going to try and stop him. He has just shown that he isn't that guy anymore.

I think the answer is simple and it's a tale as old as time. He got his retirement contract, combined with being traded away from where his heart was, and just doesn't have the drive. Some players just want to win and thrive with the spotlight on them, and some just want the year round flip flops and Ferraris. I don't think it's a malicious or even a conscious thing. Some players just can't fake it if their heart isn't in it no matter how much they want to.
