Maybe it's just the people that I happen to know, but MLB seems to be as popular with younger western Canadians as hockey is in Guatemala.

I think it also depends where you're from. Rural communities definitely have more of a baseball/softball culture than the cities, and there generally isn't an opportunity to play organized football. All the boys I grew up with were far more into baseball than football because we played it, and that seems to still be the case today in the area I came from.
