Hey, sorry GomerPile, I thought I responded to you here already. I did type something out, but it must have not sent for some reason.

I love my kids, but I don't want to home school them and we never seriously considered that option. I wanted them to get the experience of really living in another country, going to school there, and making friends. We also wanted to embed ourselves in the community and not just be perpetual tourists.

Part of the reason why we chose France was for them to improve their French and because the schools have four, 2-week breaks that give us lots of time to travel. Two summers, plus four 2-week breaks is lots of time to be on the road traveling.

Overall, we have been very impressed with the school system here. Our kids are learning so much and everything is communicated to us clearly. We know exactly what they are learning and what the expectations are. If they are struggling, the teachers are not afraid to let you know. I find in Canada teachers are often afraid to speak the truth about how kids are doing, and instead write vague euphemisms in the report cards.

School is going to be on easy mode for them when we go back.
