Markstrum was still an established starter and did not want to be the backup.
The Flames had to trade one of the two in reality and it wasn't an overly hard choice which to trade (Although Nashville chose the other route so I won't say its 100% obvious which to trade, let's go with 99.9%)
I don't give a lot of props for being proactive trading Markstrum. I do give props at the return he for him.

The thing about trades is there is pretty much always a reason for them. Almost none of them are done “just cuz.”
Not sure “yeah but here’s WHY they could trade this guy!!!” is a gotchya of any kind. Nor am I sure why anyone thinks it is.
