Do you know how an expansion draft works? If they traded Gio, they would have to lose another, younger player for nothing. One player leaves for nothing either way. And trading him before an expansion draft doesn’t really work the same, as then whoever you’re trading him to risks losing either him or another player that he’d replace for nothing.
