I was thinking of getting some kind of magnifying solution for painting or working on small things and I thought "oh, I see magnifying reading glasses sometimes in stores" so I went to Walmart to try some and I must be missing something since they don't seem to work at all.

I wear glasses normally but I'm nearsighted. I still have some progressive computer glasses I wear while on the computer but I can read or do stuff close without glasses at all.

When I tried the various powers of reading glasses it seemed like they didn't do anything for me at all. They were blurry until I brought something pretty close in but when I did then it seemed like there was no magnification going on at all.. I could take them on and off and whatever I was looking at is exactly the same!

Is this because I would still need something with my prescription to get the magnification?

If so them maybe I would look at mountable loupes or the headset magnifiers that hold lenses further out.
