Danault has always been a lot more of a Backlund type than Kadri. The "third line" center forced to play as more of a 2 and take the tough matchups. The Kings as a team are not scoring much this year and it seems like it's impacted Danault quite a bit. His goal scoring has been trending down for a couple of years here, and with everyone else not scoring around him, the assist totals are way down.
Perhaps a change of scenery will shock him and get him back in line with previous production since many of the other underlying numbers for him still look like they're okay.
I'd have to think a Kings team struggling to score, knowing that their top center won't be there next year would look at Kadri as a guy who they need to help fill what is going to be a massive void. They won't replace Kopitar in a one for one type swap. They're going to need to do it through taking a hit at the one C, and improving their 2nd and 3rd line centers, and other pieces in the top 9.
