This is why we weren't getting Hage for Kadri. LA is in the playoffs and they made this deal. New playoff cap rules should create more trades where teams trade away and then add
LA is more likely to load up for Kadri as Kopitar can play the checking role and Kadri can be their #1 center. Kopitar retires and they have money to blow as Kadri and Byfield are paid 2nd/3rd line money.

That would be interesting and I agree that I don’t think LA wants to take a step backwards.
Could come down to how Kadri feels about LA. They’re kind of a mid-upper mushy middle team. That said, if Kadri was in their lineup over the last two years could they have knocked off the Oilers? Maybe.
