No, I've only been in Northern Alberta for..ah 3 months now I guess...so this whole Fleury thing is a nice distraction for me. I'm not sure about the Salary question. Fleury says he's playing for free. I'm almopst positive that's BS. I heard a figure of $10,000 upfront and $1,000 for every game he plays. Plus the band is paying for his travel and hotel back and forth to Calgary. No one else can be making that much except maybe Odjick. I know he's living in Vancouver and flying in for games. I imagine most players have to have some other kind of income coming in. One thing is for sure, this hockey team is not a money making operation. Someone told me their budget for the year was $1M which is far and beyond any other team in the league. It takes a lot of $5 tickets to make up a million bucks. [/b][/quote]
If the team is being funded by a First Nations group, than there could certainly be a few dollars involved. When I was playing Fastball in Prince George 4 years ago the Lhiedi River Kings signed a guy to pitch for them for the season because they wanted to take a serious run at the Candadian Mens Sr.A title along with the First Nations National title. The rumors on the diamond were that he was given $30,000 in cash. No one doubted it either as the first thing he did was go out and buy a brand new Firebird. I imagine that they gave a guy like Fleury a few bucks and other perks to suit up for them.
