I've used both IBKR and Questrade, both their web and desktop platforms. I also saw the new Questrade Pro beta demo yesterday morning, and got onboarded to it this afternoon -- it's clever but 'beta' is a lofty way to describe the state it's in... more like early alpha.

IBKR is a race car. It is raw. It is unpolished. It might not even be legal to drive on the streets in certain jurisdictions. But it will do everything you need it to do. There are no creature comforts with IBKR TWS, it is all pro, all the time. The website and mobile app are both kludgy too. But IBKR will do everything.

Questrade Edge desktop is a sports car for the road that you might take on the track. It's designed to be easier to use and has more creature comforts, but in so doing it is missing some of the advanced race-bred capabilities of IBKR's solution. It's not necessarily the easiest thing to drive around town either, but you'll only occasionally scrape when leaving certain parking lots.

Questrade Edge web is surprisingly decent for what it is and easy to use, but it is a watered down experience of Edge desktop. Someone who is constantly dicking around in the market -- spending the whole day trading and monitoring charts, not just poking around here and there -- is not using QT's web experience. I use Edge web to jump in for quick maintenance: roll my CCs and credit spreads when they're up 50% or more, or if I want to put in a limit order after a bank deposit has come in to buy more of my ETF holdings.
