Ya, you can't trade both. Someone has to play games this season and making Zary and Backlund your two top centers with Beecher, Kirkland, and Kerins behind them is pretty reckless. It would hurt both the Flames and the Wranglers.
Frost - Backlund - Zary - Beecher
That looks like a more reasonable depth chart that is likely still going to keep Team Tank happy with the results.
Also, Frost might be the guy who takes advantage of a bigger role, which would increase his value going into next season where he either needs to sign an extension or get traded.
Retention slots is another reason to not trade Frost now. We get 3 slots per year. This year we already have Markstrom in one, Andersson potentially in a second, and then Coleman or Kadri could use the third.
Next year, Markstrom and Andersson would be clear and Coleman/Kadri would remain meaning we would have 2 retention slots to use on Frost and either of Coleman or Kadri if they are not traded this season.
If Conroy has permission to maximize value with retention slots then paying attention to their usage is important. (I would avoid retaining on Kadri unless the return is amazing)
