This is the issue that I am having with the Flames lately. The stupid thing is that these lies didn't need to happen. We don't need to hear that this season's standings so far are 'unexpected' and that the 'Flames are not rebuilding' and that these deals were signed long ago.
It is idiotic to expect your fans to be idiotic. We all understand that not everything can be discussed publicly. In those cases, just STFU instead of outright lying to your paying customers. You already milked the community for a lot of money with the new building, even though there has been ZERO success since '89, with an arguable exception in '04. You ask me to spend so much money hand over fist, you ask me to spend so much of my time watching this usually inferior product, but now you also feel the need to basically call me an idiot while doing so?
This isn't 'nothing'. Maybe in itself it would be, but this is just another lie on top of a lie because this organization assumes we have the memory of a goldfish, right? It is damn annoying, honestly disrespectful, no?
Do better Flames. Treat your ever shrinking fan-base better. If you can't tell the truth, say nothing at all. Stop lying and gaslighting please. I just might start to take things personally.
As for the Monahan trade - it was expensive, and I didn't like it, but it made sense at the time to go 'all in'. I don't agree with it, but I understood it. However, I also think the value there was dependent on two things:
1) How well the Flames did (it didn't go well - not only did the Flames not contend, they haven't even made the playoffs).
2) If Kadri gets traded, what is the difference in value?
Flames can still pull out a 'win' from the Monahan trade. They are obviously linked moves - Monahan would not have been traded unless the Flames needed the room to sign Kadri. One does not happen without the other.

Very well said.
Flames fans have a right to be insulted.
