The amount that the City is now spending on the new rink was essentially the same amount they were committed to spend to host the entire Olympics.
Calgary could have had:
-New Arena
-New Fieldhouse
-Renovated McMahon, Oval, Winsport
-New residential development (athletes village)
-new C-train line
-significant bump in short and long-term tourist $$$
Most of the funding for this was set to come from the Feds and the Province.
Instead, for the same budget, Calgary gets the arena and now needs to fund the remaining infrastructure out of its own budget.
Another example of why these decisions should be made by experts, and not the general population who gets their insight from social media.
