It’s more of a commentary on the last decade plus where this team has been very inconsistent and when they are expected to be terrible they are decent and when expected to be good they are average.
Last year they were supposed to be bottom 10 but they get 96pts. The year before there was hope that with Sutter out they would have been a competitive team but they finished bottom 10. The previous year they were considered a cup contender and finished 9th.
Go back to Gaudreau’s rookie season to see this team just never seems to live up to the hype one year and completely outperform expectations the next.
