Obviously we don't have anywhere near the level of talent they do, even without them having a franchise superstar, which makes the whole thing a not very good comparison. On top of that, the Canes are great at cruising through the regular season and one or two divisional rounds of the playoffs, but then crash hard in the conference finals against more playoff-built teams (1-16) in their last 4 trips. Probably not the ideal model we should be trying for.

They drafted top 5 three times between 2013 and 2018 including a 2OA. That's what tankers want, no? The year they drafted Hanifin 5OA they ahd 71 points which is pretty terrible. They just could play worse than Buffalo, Edmonton, Toronto, and AZ.
Their highest pick (2OA) came off an 83 point season. In the mushy middle.
