IMO some of these guys are just locked into a mindset where you ALWAYS say the goal is playoffs and to ice a winning team, because they figure that’s what fans want to hear.

I agree with you to a degree. I think a 9th place team that struggled to score last year, going out and doing absolutely nothing in the offseason, gave me a lot of hope that they are being realistic and taking a patient approach.
I understand the ‘spin’ here but if they don’t realize the market and fan base are cheering for a rebuild, they just aren’t reading the room. Treliving had a great line about ‘… taking cues from the team….’ that determines how management should proceed. That type of vague messaging would have been so much better.
That being said, I agree with the sentiment in reacting to their actions, not their words.
