I am not a fan at all of Murray Edwards, but at the same time I know he is not an idiot either. My concern with him comes with the new rink. Is he going to be willing to sit through a rebuild when he knows it will be harder to justify charging higher prices without a playoff team.
The other issue is how long is the rebuild going to be... is Murray fine with a 2 year rebuild? A 3 year? A 5 year? It will take a several years to become a playoff team again and I think he knows this.
While most of the fanbase knows what needs to happen for us to become a contender, a lot of this is all dependent on ownership. Which is frustrating as a fan, as I believe we have a very, very good GM. Who could make some really great moves here if he's given the chance.

In the one and only conversation I had with a member of the Flames executive team I met randomly at a party a year ago. I was reassured that CC (+ Don Maloney) have full autonomy on player transactions and decision making. ME has no interest in interfering with such. I doubt this has changed in the past 12 months.
This exec team member answered many questions/doubts I had on possible ownership interference based on CP posts/threads. He graciously answered all of them. I came away feeling very comfortable hockey operations is handled solely by those hired to run hockey operations.
I really think a successful businessman like ME knows not to micromanage stuff he knows little about. Its much better to hire the best for the role and let them do their work for awhile without interfering.
I share your confidence in CC and will patiently await a small number of veteran trades in-season he will be allowed to make with solid or even surprisingly good returns.
