As mentioned in the trade rumours thread if the Flames trade Kadri, Andersson, and Coleman for prospects and picks with limited salary coming back the team will struggle to hit the cap floor in the coming years. Securing a guy like nurse
will help us stay above that line for the next four seasons and also reduce how many bad UFA overpaid contracts we sign. Regardless of this hypothetical trade Flames will have to take on bad contracts in some of the trades we make this year.
The sentiment around here is that we fill the roster with the recent draft picks and journeymen AHLers. That means going forward the Flames need to take on a few boat anchor contracts to balance out the ELCs/$1mil contracts that first year NHLers are paid to, again, reach that cap floor. Cap is projected to be $113.5mil in the 27/28 season. Nurse's $9.25 will only capture 8% of that so will be easier to stomach as the years go on.
Added benefit is that Nurse is bad and will help the tank/accumulation of high picks.
