I thought Kerins acquitted himself well in the NHL.
It could have something to do with the Flames trying to stretch the 30 cumilitive days, and 10 games he is allowed to play in the NHL before he has to go through waivers on his way down. He currently has 2/10 games, and 4/30 days towards that counter.
