Also don't understand why so many (twitter specifically, but here as well) seemed to pivot to fire the coach the second they got what they want with a last place team.
Perpetual misery is baffling to me.

The reason for the pivot is young guys underperforming, and/or not getting as much opportunity as the older players. I personally don't care about winning this season. I do want the Flames coach to create the most optimal conditions for the development of the younger players.
Arguably most of the young guys have been underperforming this season: Zary, Coronato, and Parekh were supposed to be key pieces this year. It's combined with over reliance on the core 6 in key situations. For example, PP1 mostly remained intact despite being the worst in the league. OT yesterday didn't include either Zary or Coronato. Coleman and Backlund are always together despite losing a bunch of games. While developing a young C like Zary could benefit from a defensively responsible Coleman on the same line. It also seemed like Weegar, Kadri, and Backlund got a pass on bad performances, while others were scratched for less.
I'm still on the fence regarding Huska, but I definitely want to see progression and increased roles for the younger players. At least Kuznetsov and Honzek are doing well so far.
