Some live in an honest to god fantasy world.
I think its a coping mechanism. Feeding yourself this narrative that you're on the front lines of the human resistance to the big pharma/government/black rock mind virus probably gives their otherwise mundane every day life more meaning. Also allows them to bond and form close relationships with other fantasy dwellers, and gain a sense of belonging and community.
That's how I make sense of it anyways, as someone who has family deep into that stuff.
What's insane is how they let their confirmation biases get so out of control that they begin to connect every story in the news back to one or two overarching conspiracies. Mental string and cork boards
