I don’t think anybody has argued that his elite playmaking ability has vanished, have they?

The only question is how it’s translating, and the reasons it’s translating the way it is (which is a bit more of a complex answer) and how that might look when the competition ratchets up another level.

There are players that can make things happen all by themselves regardless of who they play with and players that need certain kinds of line mates to be at their best. Maybe this tells us McKenna is the latter.
