I agree all players make mistakes. But there are mistakes because a player tries something (even something too high risk) and it doesn't work. Or just misses an assignment. And then there are mistakes because a player hasn't yet grasped NHL structure, and what the coach is trying to get them to do.
A giveaway at the blue line because a pass got blocked or because of a bad stickhandle is just that - a mistake in execution - even if the consequences are often worse. Every Dman on the team has had those. Blindly ringing the puck around the boards for an easy intercept or even into a scrum is a mistake in understanding the game play. Parekh does this quite a bit. I didn't like it with Stone either (and it was worse because he's a veteran).
I think the "looking lost" comment is just about positioning. He's not a minus, true but he is also maybe the most sheltered player on the team in terms of zone starts.
