Every so often we have to be reminded we vote for a representative, not a party. Their job is to do what is best for their constituents. If the guy is realizing mini Trump isn't going to be good for Canada and the party is showing no sings of change, that's doing what is best.
So if the CPC wanted to assure it's voters they'd only get mini-Trumpers, they'd have to get those nominated, and then elected. People may very well have not voted for a more extreme Conservative representative, and he never would have been elected.
