Do you think there's value in brand names? Of fecking course there is. Hell, there's value in colours when used as a brand, or do you think all the conservative / right-wing political candidates using some shade of blue was a funny coincidence?

I'll say that to anyone who gives a proper damn about politics, then no, the party name is much less important. But that's in the same way people who really care about quality footwear will focus on things like materials, stitching, and construction, etc. rather than the logo / brand itself as a primary buying motivator. But for the precious few who care about the details, there are far more being sold on the name on the label. I bet for all the people who know that the Alberta NDP formally ended the policy of automatic federal NDP membership that came with provincial party membership back in May of this year, you'll find plenty more who didn't know the practice ended (or even that it was a thing).

I used to give Johnny Makarov a rough time about this too, but the truth is most people know SFA about politics as it is, and far too many voters are content to shop the brand. Maybe the brand works in other provinces like Manitoba and BC, but it hasn't worked great here. I hope that improves, or they consider branding options. Hell, a merge with the Alberta Party perhaps?
To further your point and your metaphor, most people would see the Brand or Label and use their knowledge of that to skip the process of learning about the product, in your metaphor the quality of the stitching, materials, etc. because the product is from a trusted, or un-trusted, but known brand and ergo you as the end user, be it the consumer or the voter, dont need to know all of the little details.

So yeah...the name and the colour are meaningful, whether we like it or not. Thats how branding works.

Thats why Liberals stick to Red, keep 'Liberal' in the name, ditto for Conservatives and Blue, they are leveraging pre-fabricated Goodwill Equity.
