I don't really agree with this. This player was specifically drafted for his offensive talent. The main focus should be getting him as comfortable and confident as possible at this level and the best way to do that is by getting him consistently involved with puck touches in situations where he can excel which allows him to play to his strengths as a player. The defense and strength will improve moving forward. He's not playing with any where near the level of freedom, creativity, confidence, or swagger that those who are familiar with him are accustom too seeing and that is highly concerning to me.
Did Montreal ruin Hutson last year by playing him 23+ minutes a night from the get go despite there being a massive learning curve defensively? Quinn Hughes at 19 step directly into playing 20+ minutes a night. Was he ruined?
Are the Islanders ruining Schaefer? or the Wild with Buium?
