So there was a way for the government to do this without invoking the notwithstanding clause. They could have legislated them back to work arguing that they are an essential service.
Instead they imposed the contract on them and suspended their freedoms of association, speech, assembly and other rights that you are likely in favour of. This is a gross over step of fundamental principles of democracy.
So your position of teachers shouldn’t be able to strike in the school year because they are an essential service is reasonable, however supporting the government suspending basic human rights to enforce this opinion is ridiculous
This government just chose to suspend the charter of rights and freedoms for the most banal of reasons.
