The Flames are off to an all-time bad start

Things are not going according to plan for the Calgary Flames.
A year ago, the Flames entered the 2024-25 season after a chaotic 2023-24 curious about their team and willing to do nothing and see what the team was capable of. The answer? Turns out they were capable of quite a lot, and rode hot goaltending and a really tenacious checking style to within the regulation wins tiebreaker of a playoff spot.
But a virtually identical Flames team is off to a horrid start to the 2025-26 season

Flames takeaways: Calgary stuck in basement after blowout loss in Vegas

Bottom of the league in goals scored and goal differential, the Calgary Flames are now the NHL’s last-place team.

They can’t score, they can’t defend.

There’s no sugar-coating where this beleaguered bunch sits a mere half-dozen games into the season, losing five in a row to sit 1-5.

Is Dustin Wolf in a sophomore slump?

Dustin Wolf’s first full season with the Calgary Flames was one to remember, posting a 29-16-8 record with a .910 save percentage (SV%) and 2.64 goals against average (GAA) in 53 games. He finished as a runner-up for the Calder Trophy and earning a seven-year contract extension that will pay him $7.5 million a year.

But through four games in 2025-26, Wolf has struggled, going 1-3-0 with an .873 SV% and 3.77 GAA

Flames mailbag: Is Connor Zary on the path to being Calgary's next Sam Bennett?

It was clear in the off-season that the team is somewhat ambivalent about Connor Zary. They moved to lock up guys like Dustin Wolf, Kevin Bahl and Matt Coronato to long-term deals, but negotiated Zary down to a bridge deal just before training camp.

Analyst rips Flames forward: ‘That guy doesn’t hate to lose’

Sharangovich was a hot topic on Saturday’s post-game show on Hockey Night in Canada, and that’s not a good thing for the Calgary Flames forward.

After the Flames were throttled 6-1 by the Vegas Golden Knights, their fifth consecutive loss, tell-it-like-it-is analyst Kevin Bieksa hammered Sharangovich with a brutally honest assessment
