Yeah, I went in cold and didn't even know he was in it. Was really surprised as whenever you see him you're like, 'jared leto jared leto jared leto jared leto'. I don't buy him as anything other than Jared Leto.
Plus I though he was the leader of a cult or something. Should we cancel the guy or whatever we do now?
Anyway, I was able to overlook it and just chill to the 3D visuals (which I like...never understood people not liking 3D) and NIN soundtrack (even though it was pretty mid as far as how good NIN can be).

Great concept, poor execution

You must have left before the end. It was great. Full circle to the first scene where she photographs the president on TV from her hotel room bed. Pablo Escobar or whoever the guy was was only after a quote. He got it. New plucky photographer had a great arc going from naive to capable and finishing what Dunst started in scene 1.
Just a terrific movie.
Perhaps the army and fighting stuff took you out of the moment if they weren't operating in a realistic way given your life experience. I don't know jack squat about any of that stuff, so it wasn't a distraction and I absolutely loved every millisecond of that 10/10 movie.
