Well Necas had one year of term in addition to the year he was traded. Not sure the value of that term but it would have value. Drury is far far inferior to Coleman who has more term than anyone in the original Rantanen trade.
Necas was a PPG winger for one season of his career. He is a good player but it is not like he was a long term PPG player, definitely was a risk he would go back to his normal 40-60 point history.
I think fans undervalue the value of winning vis-a-vis the value of picks and prospects. Not saying the Stars will trade Robertson but there is a reason why for the majority of NHL teams players that help them win now are far far more valuable than picks and prospects. Rasmus and Coleman are both players that fulfill the win now criteria that 70% or more of GM’s value more than picks and prospects.
