I think it's pretty obvious at this point that she was born with differences of sex, but "transgender" and "differences of sex" are two different issues and should be discussed separately.

While male-to-female transgender athletes shouldn't be able to compete in women's sports, the case is much less clear for someone who was born with "differences of sex", name female at birth and has identified as female all their life. Sporting bodies will need to get a handle on this and the outcome will be different based on each sport. Combat and contact sports will obviously need to be treated differently than non-contact sports.

For now, the World Boxing, which replaces the IBA requires that athletes will need to undergo a PCR test and "If only a pair of XX chromosomes are found, or a DSD in which androgenization does not occur, the athlete will be considered eligible to compete in the female category."

So transgender athletes aren't eligible (and they never have been), while treatment of DSD athletes is being adjusted to protect binary female athletes.

As it stands now, Imane Khelif has not done testing so is barred from competing in world boxing and future Olympics competitions.
