I know this is a joke but...Ovechkin's best year was still in 2007/08, with 65 goals. When you adjust that figure to account for leaguewide goals per game, it's even more impressive.
Edit: Not only was Ovechkin getting more goals then, but he was a much better skater. He led the league in points and goals and was also somehow top 10 in hits. He's good now, but was a dominant player in those first few years.
He actually won the All-Star "Breakaway competition" in 2008, 2009, and 2011. Zero chance he would come close now.
