1 thing that keeps getting overlooked when looking at the cap situation for the Oilers with Mcdavid on a discount is Campbell buyout is at it's highest this season and next. This season isn't any different, but next year the cap goes up but Campbell cap hit is $2.6 mil.

They over paid Walman on top of this.

I show they have $21 mil space next year with 15 players. This is assuming that Howard and Savoie are on the team. This looks like a bunch of cap space, but the cost for free agents as gone up and they don't have assets to trade for cheap star players.

Can the Oilers win the cup after going to the finals 2 straight years, getting older each year? I don't see them being in the best cap position to maybe the last year of Mcdavid contract. Florida still has them beat and a team like Colorado has Makar and Mackinnon on deals way cheaper than Leon and McDavid make combined.

Carolina is still looking better as well.

It's like the media's analysis stops at McDavid at a $5M discount equals cup after cup.
