What if they fail miserably in the 25/26 season?
After I got over the shock of McDavid actually signing and I looked at the contract details my thoughts went to how easy it is to trade the top offensive performer in the game with term at only $12.5M AAV. In my opinion he is being nice to the team and giving them a better opportunity to trade him (to wherever he wants). Can he drag them back to the Final for a 3rd consecutive year?
My mind wandered as I typed this. Can you imagine that they missed the playoffs because they couldn't address goaltending or defense and McDavid demands a trade to Toronto and his next contract is a "Crosby special" of $9.7M AAV?
