I wonder what the plan will be if the following players look really good on the wings to start the season:

Gridin
Posposil
Klapka
Zary

And the following players don’t look good:

Sharangovich
Coleman
Farabee

Why I choose those players is because the first list is young players that I think most people hope/think will take big steps/bounce back while the second list is players on contracts that are likely slightly over-paid that are also older (only slightly older in the case of Sharangovich and Farabee).

Would this scenario make it so Conroy looks to trade players from the second list early in the season even if it means a lower return? For example, I think Coleman with 50% retention would return something like a 2nd round pick + 4th round pick around the trade deadline but, right now, it’s probably more like a 3rd round pick. Does Conroy make that trade to make room for young players on the roster or does he wait it out while allowing young players to sit/get sent down to the wranglers until the value of some of the vets increases? The decision could need to be made once Huberdeau and Posposil are back. I’d love it if all these players do well but I think this kind of decision could need to be made sooner rather than later.

If players like Gridin and Klapka struggle and don’t look ready to be NHL regulars, the decision would be easy… send Gridin to the wranglers and have Klapka come in-and-out of the lineup as a 4th line player.
